Enterprise Risk Management: A drive for Organization Success

As opposed to processes, tools, departments, or lists of risks, Enterprise Risk Management is about how organizations make better decisions. The 2021 Risk in Focus report has projected the top risks for 2022 and beyond. The Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) is committed to help private and public sector organizations improve performance through though leadership that develop internal control, risk management, governance and deter fraud. The ISO 31000 standard was developed to account for the unexpected in managing risk. Themed “Enhancing resilience in the face of evolving threats”, the Enterprise Risk Management workshop targets Internal Auditors with more than three years’ experience in managing risks, managers and Finance professionals who are involved in ERM process together with professionals who deal with complexities of ERM. This workshop will help participants to keep abreast with latest trends and industry best practices in response to the evolving threats facing organizations, discover how to incorporate risk frameworks into strategic decision-making, avoid pitfalls in building and improving on risk culture and gain insights on how to leverage on technology to enhance risk management.

This workshop will focus on the following topics:

  1. Risk in Focus: Internal Audit Priorities in 2022 and Beyond

As we get into the last quarter of the year, Chief Audit Executives undertake audit planning process for the coming year. While advocates have called for a continuous methodology for assessing risk and a dynamic audit plan that is updated regularly, undertaking annual risk assessments that is pegged on the previous year calendar plan is still the most preferred approach. This session will explore the top risks that Chief Audit Executives expect and focus of the Internal Audit in 2022 and beyond.

  1. Integrating Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC)

During this session, participants will explore components of Governance, Risk and Compliance, appraise various types of governance structure, identify roles and responsibilities of key GRC personnel and understand GRC oversight roles and accompanying accountability structures.

  1. Promoting Risk Accountability and Awareness through a Positive Risk Culture

This session will help participants to define risk culture, assess the risk culture maturity and help establish the desired level of risk culture maturity by identifying factors that influence the desired level of maturity to create a positive risk culture.

  1. Creating an Integrated Uncertainty Risk Management System

Increasing complexity and uncertainty in our environment have made organizations to explore options for addressing risks in a holistic manner. This session will help participants understand to create integrated uncertainty management systems. Participants will also appreciate the use of COSO ERM framework and standards in managing risk.

  1. Mitigation Human Capital Risk in virtual working environments

Advances in technology has changed how organizations, identify, deploy and develop workforce resulting in human capital risk that had not been foreseen before. This session will discuss how to mitigate human capital risk in virtual work places.

  1. Role of Automation in Transformational Risk Management

The COVID-19 era has made organizations look at risk in different dimensions. The disruptions to third parties and supply chains have impacted service providers and caused disruptions that affect supply chain partners. This session will explore how organizations can risk management programs that blends data science, automation and artificial intelligence to identify indicators ahead of risk events and act proactively to mitigate these risks before they become disruptive.

  1. Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning

This session will help participants understand the importance of risk in setting a strategy to put in place business continuity and place disaster recovery plans.

  1. Mental Health in the Workplace

This session will explore how to manage mental health issues that arise at the workplace set up. 

The workshop will be held from November 9-12, 2021 at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort, Mombasa. Charges are KES 55,000 and KES 60,000 plus VAT for Members and Non-Members respectively. The cost excludes accommodation. Members in attendance will earn 20 CPD points. Registration will be done on November 9, 2021 and the event will start on November 10, 2021.

Target Audience: This workshop targets Chief Audit Executives, Heads and Staff of Internal Audit and those in Finance, Risk Assessment and Management.


Delegates are expected to make their own accommodation arrangements.
